The number of unemployed persons (6.9 million) was essentially unchanged in June with an unemployment rate of 4.5 percent. The jobless rate has ranged from 4.4 to 4.6 percent since September 2006. The unemployment rate for Hispanics also held steady at 5.7 percent according to US Labor Department figures.
